~ Vision ~

Walnut Creek Original Free Will Baptist Church is a Bible based, Gospel centered, Christ focused family of believers and disciples of the One True Living God lead by the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit. We seek to see our community saved and set free from the bondage of sin through discipleship and instruction in the inspired Word of God. We desire to equip and empower men and women to serve God by serving others and sharing the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in our community and beyond.

~ What we believe ~

- We believe in the eternal (from everlasting to everlasting) Triune God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – One God consisting of three persons revealing Himself to different people at various times.

 - We believe He Created Heaven and Earth and all that is in them.

- We believe that because “God so loved the World” and grieved that man was separated from Him through the sin of Adam, that He was born into flesh through the womb of a virgin by the power of the Holy Spirit. Fully God and fully man, Jesus Christ lived a sinless life and became the perfect spotless Lamb of Sacrifice taking the sins of all mankind upon His back as He hung on the Cross of Calvary. Through His death, burial, and resurrection He has given those that will repent of their sins and believe He is the Son of the Living God the privilege to become sons and daughters of God and joint heirs to the Kingdom of Heaven.

- We believe that we are responsible to share the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ by witness and example as we live our lives for Him.

Walnut Creek OFWB History

A black and white sketch of a small church with a steeple, surrounded by trees and bushes. There is a sign that reads 'Walnut Creek' at the bottom right.

Walnut Creek Original Free Will Baptist Church was organized in 1859. The first meeting place was a small one room building on land donated by Brother Matthew Uzzell. There were two small one room buildings on the property at the time of the donation. One was known as the Old John Wooten School, where most of the older members of Walnut Creek received their education. The other building was used for church services. The present chapel, a modest 30 x 40-foot one room building was constructed on the site in 1898. Worship service was held once a month.

In the 1950's, the people of the church did a great deal of work. The entire sanctuary was refinished, and new pews were purchased. Sunday school rooms were also constructed during this time. The Vacation Bible School program as well as Homecoming services were initiated and have continued to date.

In the 1960's, gas heaters first warmed the sanctuary, and a new piano was donated to the church. In 1966, plans were drawn up, and construction was started for a new addition to the church. The Fellowship building was completed and dedicated on October 8, 1972.

The 1970's brought about more improvements for the church. Heating and air conditioning was installed in the sanctuary. The adult class donated carpeting, the communion table, and pulpit chairs for the sanctuary. The church sign was donated for the front lawn. The vestibule was added, and the exterior of the church was bricked. The end of the 1970's saw the addition of weekly worship services.

In the 1980's members continued updating the church. The first church directory was compiled, and the flagpole was erected on the front lawn. New pew cushions were purchased and the baptistry was installed to add to the beauty of the sanctuary. The tin roof was replaced with shingles. Fluorescent lighting was added to the Fellowship building and a telephone was also installed in the church.

Improvements continued in the 1990's as new floor covering was donated for the Fellowship building and a steeple graced the roof of the church. Two adjacent lots were purchased in order to support future growth plans, church activities, additional parking and a playground space for children.

The 21st century has brought tremendous growth and excitement to Walnut Creek. A new annex was dedicated on February 20th, 2005, which connected the Sanctuary and Fellowship building. This was the largest building project encountered in church history to date. This project added an A Frame roof onto the Fellowship building, new bathroom facilities near the sanctuary, 4 Sunday school rooms, pastors’ office, indoor storage space upstairs, overflow fellowship space, and covered handicap access for the entire facility. Donations were also given to add beautiful stained-glass windows to the Sanctuary, vestibule and adjoining rooms depicting the Life of Christ along with a Kawai baby grand piano and a lighted display of the Ten Commandments to the sanctuary. Other improvements included the addition of computerized audio & video projection equipment, sound system and master control booth in the back of the sanctuary.

Our Church has come to be what it is today through the dedication of its members and supporters over the years and we are extremely grateful to the many people who have been a part of her history. We pray that our Church may continue to witness to all peoples in the Lord's name and with His love.
